
Methodology #1
This introductory course in research methodology will help students write a research paper on a topic they care about. Students will bring their own interests and values, and we will help them identify topics and research questions to engage their interests.

Methodology #2
We will teach them the basics of research methodology and academic writing. They will research their questions and write a research paper. The process is the same whether you are an 8th grader or a tenured professor, but this particular course is for 8th to 10th graders.

Methodology #3
In addition to coming to class, students must set aside several hours to work on their research independently. They will have a substantial research assignment to complete each week for 10 weeks.
10-Week Program Details

WEEK 1
Turn your research topic into a research question.

WEEK 2
Conduct a focused literature search and review.

WEEK 3
Write literature review, cite sources appropriately.

WEEK 4
Find data and learn if it can answer your research questions.

WEEK 5
Write data and methods as you decide how to analyze data (not after).

WEEK 6
Write your results while analyzing your data (and edit your data and methods along the way)

WEEK 7
Write your conclusions by explaining the implications of your results

WEEK 8
Write your introduction now that you understand your key findings.

WEEK 9
Revise and refine your paper.

WEEK 10
Final presentation. Oral presentation and thesis defense.

About Your Instructor

Dr. Rajagopal Appavu, Research Expert
Dr. Rajagopal Appavu is currently a Professor in the Health Care Studies department at the University of South Florida and was previously a Professor of pharmacology and Toxicology at the Sealy Center for Vaccine Development University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston, Texas. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics (Biochemistry) from Indian Institute of Science-Bangalore, India. He received his M.Sc. in Chemical Sciences from Pondicherry University, Puducherry and his B.Sc. in Chemistry from Govt. Arts College, Salem, Tamil Nadu.

About Your Instructor

Jothsna Kethar
Coach Jo as her students call her is an Independent Educational Consultant and College Counselor. She is a certified Tony Robbins Life Coach. She trained to identify children's goals, be their supportive friend and trusted adviser. She has also Trained under Peg Dawson, EdD., a renowned psychologist. She uses this understanding to coach children to discover their strengths to overcome their hurdles and roadblocks on their path to success. She is a certified Meditation Instructor as well and strives to empower parents in their child’s educational journey.
Jo also runs a nonprofit named InspireYouth, a nonprofit 501©3 organization that aims at empowering youth and fostering leadership. InspireYouth aspires to create lifetime humanitarians out of teens by providing various volunteering opportunities to contribute, learn and grow!
She completed her College Counseling course at UC Berkeley. Building a customized college list is her specialty. Her students have landed in Ivy league colleges such as Cornell, also landing in affordable colleges, winning merit aid/scholarship to the tune of $140,000.
